My father was a great photographer. May be some of that greatness got rub off onto me over the years. My real interest in photography started when my father gave me his Haliflex twin lens reflect camera. Just imagine my excitement! At the time I was just starting high school. I joined the school camera club immediately and never looked back since. Through the school camera club I learned the camera skills and darkroom techniques. Most of my spare time was spent either taking photographs or in the darkroom. I processed and printed all my black & white photographs. Have a look at some of my early photographs.

I am lucky because I believe I am blessed with a gift of artistic perception. Like artists I am able to 'see' beauty and simplicity in among confusion. I often compose the picture in my mind long before I press the shuttle button. To me the camera is like the paint brush and canvas to an artist.

I experimented with colour photography for the first time when I was about 16 years old. At the time colour photography was quite a novelty for me. My very first set of colour prints were photographs of my high school. I started doing my own colour printing in the late 70's after I became member of the Ericsson Camera Club.

I love photographing landscape and people. My interest in outdoor activities like bushing walking, camping, fishing etc. provides me with lots of opportunities for landscape photography. On the people side I particularly interested in capturing the innocence and uncorrupted nature of children.

Photographic Exhibitions

During late 1987 I met Mr. Ye Yong-Ming a photographer from China in the Chinese Mission Church. Yong-Ming came to Australia to study English. We got to know each other and before long we discovered our common interest. The idea of running a combined photographic exhibition was raised and discussed. At the time with our limited individual resources it seemed an impossible dream. But with the encouragement and support of the Chinese Mission Church we decided to go ahead. Yong-Ming has some excellent contacts in China where he was able to get one of the Masters of calligraphy to design the title of the exhibition "Nature and Man" in Chinese for us. Eventually after much hard work and late nights the exhibition was opened on the 8th of July 1988. The exhibition was a resounding success. Photography and Poetry

I have always been interested in poetry especially the Haiku. I believe Haiku is ideally suited for expressing the artistic content of a photograph. Like photographs Haiku poems also capture and describe a moment in time. A haiku is an unrhymed 17 syllable poem of Japanese origin. It usually has a seasonal reference. The structure is:

Line 1 - 5 syllables (Time of the day)

Line 2 - 7 syllables (Focus on something)

Line 3 - 5 syllables (Compare it to something else)
