The Maribyrnong River - One Frosty Winter Morning

The Maribyrnong River, which begins on the slopes of Mount Macedon and flows to Port Phillip Bay, has played a major role in the occupation and development of western Victoria. Its beauty is like a well hidden jewel yet to be discovered. Aboriginal tribes have frequented its banks for at least 40,000 years. At the lower part i.e after Brimbank Park the river was tidel. May be that was the reason it was known as Saltwater River before its present name came into common usage.

Personally I love to cycle along the bank of the river. There are very well established bicycle paths on both banks of the river. To appreciate the beauty and tranquility of the river the best season is Winter. The best time is morning especially after a frosty night. Below is a pictorial tour of the river between Footscray Park and Maribyrnong Park one frosty Winter morning.
